Happy Three Kings Day!
(And my apologies to everyone for whom it is no longer Three Kings. Pinch hitters were working really hard to make sure no one was left out. Thank you to bluflamingo, Maekala, Settiai, Moontyger, ketos, Laylah, Amadi, Amy D., Anaraine, Joanne, and Ladyjax!)
P.S. Don't forget to thank your sailors.
P.P.S. Please PM me first if there's any difficulty with anything related to the challenge. Thanks.
If you didn't sign up to pinch hit but you would like to see if you can help with this siutation, please PM me to ask to see the request. The request is in one large British fandom, one large anime fandom, and one action movie that was quite popular but is not a large fandom AFAIK.
At this point, I will gladly accept stories under a thousand words. Thanks for whatever help you can give.
ETA: Several people have stepped forward and offered to do their best, which is all I ask of any participant or pinch hitter. I will still happily send the request to anyone who wants to take a whack at it, but I believe the crisis is, at least, reduced, if not averted.
If I don't have your story now, you are late and you can only participate as a pinch hitter in future rounds.
However, I will happily take a completed story for your recipient from you until January 4. Although I am getting a pinch hitter right now for your recipient, no one ever complains about getting two stories.
Thank you for everyone who got your story in on time. And, everyone who used the grace period, please be aware that this was a very unusually long grace period, and you should never depend on grace period to have time to finish your story. (But thanks for sending it in anyway!)
Just a week to go until it's Three Kings day!
If you have already submitted your story to me by e-mail and I have NOT replied to confirm I received it, comment to this entry with
(a) the e-mail address you sent from
(b) the e-mail address you sent to (which should have been zvi at slashx hyphen files dot com)
(c) the first and last sentence of your story.
If you are going to submit your story, and you are worried about me receiving it, you may, IN ADDITION to e-mailing it to me, PM me your story or save the story to an online wordprocessor like Google Docs or Zoho Writer or Adobe Buzzword and give me access to the document.
Also, please, please, please, please send your story as Plain Text. Your word processor may call this ASCII, Text Only, Simple Text, etc. I already got one story in RTF and two in docx. :(
As you know, stories are due tonight at midnight Eastern Standard Time (UTF -5). However, you have a grace period, which is until I wake up and start logging stories to see who has turned something in. You may be pleased to note that I am sick, and the grace period is likely to be longer rather than shorter. (However, please take note! The gods of perversity may trouble us all, and I could be unable to sleep due to coughing fits, and start logging stories again at 1 AM EST.)
In any case, I am very excited to see what all everyone has turned in. Exciting times, participants, exciting times!
(eta: clarify for already submitted people what to do.)

I was assigned a story for I Saw Three Ships 2010
The name I used to register for I Saw Three Ships was: (if you are a Beth, please also include your e-mail address)
My story will be:
You already have my story, zvi. I am an awesome early finisher who deserves a gold star!
turned in on time, by 11:59 p.m. EST on Dec 29.
not turned in on time, I am defaulting.
I have accepted a pinch hit
I will turn it in by11:59 p.m. EST on December 29
I will turn it in at a later day/time that I will send you in PM or e-mail
I will not turn it in at all, but I am not defaulting because Pinch Hits are optional.
If you did not receive your assignment (and you checked your spam folder), please send me a PM via dreamwidth (because clearly my e-mail and your e-mail are having trouble talking.)
The only reason for an assignment change is because your assignee did not make a request in any of the fandoms you signed up for. Some of you signed up in a lot of fandoms, so, please, think hard before you say you didn't sign up in a fandom. I did, in fact, check the list before I sent out assignments.
Getting unexpected, unattractive, or otherwise unwelcome characters is not a reason to switch assignments.
If you have to drop out, please drop out sooner rather than later, to give the pinch hitters more time to work.
Sign ups close October 29. If you've been debating whether or not to join in, please come with us and have some fun!
Entice your friends! Spread the news! Threesome time is here!
3_ships is a threesomes Secret Santa.
It's multi-fandom, open to all gender combinations, and we expect to have a lot of fun. Try it, you'll like it!
Read the rules and then signup.

Ask questions in the comments. Also, to spread the cheer about, recommend some of your favorite threesome fanworks in the comments!
If you have posted your thoughts on the process, or analyzed the stories overall, or have a recslist you would like to share, please feel free to link in the comments to this entry.
Also, a heads up regarding next year. ( archiving in flux )
Last, relevant to the interests of the Stargate fans among you: sg1_beyond_otp is having a Gateverse OT3+ ficathon. It is in the prompt format, and accepts all romantic groupings involving more than two people.
Thanks to CK, Amy Fortuna, Jain, Kisa Hawklin, Misura, Princess of Geeks, Settiai, and Voleuse for pinch hitting.
Recipients, please thank your writers. Leaving comments on the other stories would be quite nice, too.
This year, I am using the Disqus commenting system, which is new to me, but very popular among blog users. Readers, all feedback this year is public and will be displayed on the story, instead of featuring the LJ comment hack we've had for the past several years. Authors, you can subscribe to the comments for the story you wrote at the bottom of the commenting form. If you want to respond to feedback before the reveal, please do so anonymously.
Hopefully, no one needs the following ( what if there's something wrong with my story? )
(P.S. The name on your story is the one you signed up with. E-mail me if you need me to change it for privacy reasons.)
However, even if you are a defaulter, turning your story in late has benefits.
1) Your recipient will be the lucky winner of two personalized stories! Yay!
2) Everyone gets to read an additional threesome story on January 6! Yay!
3) If your assigned writer turned in a story, your name will be on it, and you can publicly and proudly toot about it in your own journal.
Defaulted stories need to be in by January 4 to go up with everyone else's. I will still take them even after that, but astute observers may notice the changes being made to the files and infer the cause.
You may use the posting template if you feel comfortable with it.
I will be submitting my 3 Ships story on time! (On time means I will e-mail it to zvi at slashx-files dot com by 11:59 p.m. EST (UTC -5) on December 29.)
No, I am dropping out.
I am a pinch hitter who has not yet received an assignment.
Just a reminder, stories should be sent to me as text file attachments to e-mails, or in the body of the e-mail. If you know how to use it, you may use the posting template, but if you don't know how to use it, skip it!
The submission e-mail is zvi at slashx hyphen files dot com.
Looking forward to a flurry of threesome stories. (If you do not have a Dreamwidth account, you should be able to vote in the poll after you login with OpenID. If you can't get that to work, comment anonymously on this entry [anonymous comments are screened] or send an e-mail.)
P.S. If your dreamwidth account name is not connected to the name/LJ account you signed up with, please comment here to let me know who you are, after you vote.
You will be ecstatic to know that I double-checked before sending out assignments and caught three mismatches before they ended up in your inboxes. However, I only checked once, not twice, because I actually do want to sleep tonight.
If you did not get an assignment at all, (first check your spam filter and then) e-mail zvi at slashx-files dot com, comment to this entry, or PM me ASAP.
If you got an assignment, and it does not include a fandom you signed up for (double-check the confirmation e-mail I sent you and then), contact me ASAP. I can get your correct assignment (if I sent you the wrong one), I can magically produce an assignment for you (may take a few days), or you can drop out without penalty.
If you got multiple assignments, contact me ASAP so I can tell you which one is really yours.
If you got your assignment, there is a match for a fandom you offered, and you suddenly discovered that there's no way on Earth you can write A/B/C fic, please drop out ASAP. Indicate if you want to go on the pinch hitter list for this year, and if you want to offer additional fandoms as a pinch hitter to what you offered in your sign up (remember, pinch hitters have right of refusal.) If you complete a pinch hit, all penalties are reversed. ( dates and upcoming posts )
Final participant count is 46 including me. \o/ Yay, ♥♥♥. People were matched on ~30 different fandoms. It took approximately forever to complete the sort. :)
Pervyficgirl, please check your e-mail and respond to my message.
Person who signed up without including your name, requesting SGA, Leverage, and The Unit without any identifying information, please get in contact with me ASAP. I'm going to spend today working out the assignments, and I can't include you in those assignments without any contact information.
As of right now, we have forty participants, and everyone who is registered has been sent an e-mail confirmation of that fact. If you have not received e-mail confirmation, send me a message ASAP.
Please, get your Dear Writer letters ready for posting; the community entry will go up immediately after the assignments are sent out.
Fandoms offered include Vorkosigan Saga, Top Gear RPF, Smallville, Numb3rs, Pirates of The Caribbean, Pushing Daisies, Lost, The Middleman, Being Human, The Big Bang Theory, and Chuck. Fandoms requested include Dollhouse, Chuck, Babylon 5, Popslash, Heroes, Gossip Girl, Spooks, Sarah Jane Adventures, NCIS, and Veronica Mars.
I requested announcements at several LJ newsletters, but I'm not sure what newsletter comms are at Dreamwidth. If you read a newsletter for which you think I Saw Three Ships would be appropriate, please either ask the editors to place an announcement, or send me a PM telling me the name of the comm, and I'll gladly make the request. Don't forget, mention Three Ships in your own journals. Signups close on October 30. I would really like us to have 40 participants signed up.
And, finally, just a thought. The minimum word count for this exchange is 1000 words, but there is no maximum. You might want to try making your entry into a novel and writing the first draft for National Novel Writing Month. Even if you don't reach 50,000 words, a good faith effort at NaNo should easily leave you with enough material to convert into two or three excellent short stories, and you only need one. If you're worried that getting your assignment on November 1 won't leave you with enough time to plot out a story, consider using Holly Lisle's Notecarding Method for fast plotting.
Next status update will be next week. Looking forward to sending out assignments and reading everybody's Dear Santa letters.
