Authors have been revealed! Authors, feel free to post your stories on your journals or webpages or in appropriate archives. (If you post to the Archive of Our Own, I encourage you to tag your story I Saw Three Ships and place your recipient's name in the recipient field, if they have an archive account.) You may also respond to feedback at this time.

If you have posted your thoughts on the process, or analyzed the stories overall, or have a recslist you would like to share, please feel free to link in the comments to this entry.

Also, a heads up regarding next year. archiving in flux )

Last, relevant to the interests of the Stargate fans among you: [livejournal.com profile] sg1_beyond_otp is having a Gateverse OT3+ ficathon. It is in the prompt format, and accepts all romantic groupings involving more than two people.

Stories are live! Authors will be revealed on January 15. This year we have 46 stories posted.
Thanks to CK, Amy Fortuna, Jain, Kisa Hawklin, Misura, Princess of Geeks, Settiai, and Voleuse for pinch hitting.

Recipients, please thank your writers. Leaving comments on the other stories would be quite nice, too.

This year, I am using the Disqus commenting system, which is new to me, but very popular among blog users. Readers, all feedback this year is public and will be displayed on the story, instead of featuring the LJ comment hack we've had for the past several years. Authors, you can subscribe to the comments for the story you wrote at the bottom of the commenting form. If you want to respond to feedback before the reveal, please do so anonymously.

Hopefully, no one needs the following what if there's something wrong with my story? )

(P.S. The name on your story is the one you signed up with. E-mail me if you need me to change it for privacy reasons.)

If I haven't got your story now, you have missed the mercy window (aka, I finished my story at 11:42 p.m. and stopped wanting to think about this whole project for ten hours.) I have e-mailed everyone from whom I have received a story, so if I didn't e-mail you about it, you are a defaulter.

However, even if you are a defaulter, turning your story in late has benefits.

1) Your recipient will be the lucky winner of two personalized stories! Yay!
2) Everyone gets to read an additional threesome story on January 6! Yay!
3) If your assigned writer turned in a story, your name will be on it, and you can publicly and proudly toot about it in your own journal.

Defaulted stories need to be in by January 4 to go up with everyone else's. I will still take them even after that, but astute observers may notice the changes being made to the files and infer the cause.

Looking forward to a flurry of threesome stories. (If you do not have a Dreamwidth account, you should be able to vote in the poll after you login with OpenID. If you can't get that to work, comment anonymously on this entry [anonymous comments are screened] or send an e-mail.)

P.S. If your dreamwidth account name is not connected to the name/LJ account you signed up with, please comment here to let me know who you are, after you vote.

At the suggestion of one of our members, here is the beta reader finders post.

If you are offering to beta for someone, please list the fandoms and the type of beta you can do (e.g. grammar, britpick, storydoctoring, canonicity, etc.). Leave some non-public method (i.e. private message or e-mail) by which you can be contacted.

If you need a beta, please post the fandom (just the fandom, not the threesome!) you need help with and the kind of beta you need, and make the post anonymously. The author will then need to monitor the thread, whether through reloading this entry continuously or tracking it, to see if anyone responds. If, as a beta, you do respond to one of these anonymous requests, make sure to leave direct contact info.

I'm going to screen all comments on this post, in case some writer forgets to post anonymously. I will unscreen as fast as I can.

This is just a heads up: if your recipient did not post a Dear Sailor letter when 3 Ships assignments first went out, you should check the links to Dear Sailor letters again. A number of people posted their letters somewhat belatedly.

Please remember, the letters are optional, but you should do your best to avoid the things that squick your recipient.

Also, I've been rethinking the issue of prompts lately, and I would appreciate people completing this poll. (Remember, if you're following from Livejournal, you can vote in Dreamwidth polls as long as you've logged in with OpenID.)

Please write a letter expanding on what you'd like in a story, what you like in the fandoms and trios you requested, and what your squicks are. You may either write a letter in comments or post a link to an unlocked entry on your journal. Your sailor (i.e. assigned writer) is not obligated to include the things you put in the letter, but they should avoid your listed squicks, and may better be able to determine what to write for you.

Make sure the name on the comment below matches the name you used to sign up with!

Assignments have been sent out!

You will be ecstatic to know that I double-checked before sending out assignments and caught three mismatches before they ended up in your inboxes. However, I only checked once, not twice, because I actually do want to sleep tonight.

So…

If you did not get an assignment at all, (first check your spam filter and then) e-mail zvi at slashx-files dot com, comment to this entry, or PM me ASAP.

If you got an assignment, and it does not include a fandom you signed up for (double-check the confirmation e-mail I sent you and then), contact me ASAP. I can get your correct assignment (if I sent you the wrong one), I can magically produce an assignment for you (may take a few days), or you can drop out without penalty.

If you got multiple assignments, contact me ASAP so I can tell you which one is really yours.

If you got your assignment, there is a match for a fandom you offered, and you suddenly discovered that there's no way on Earth you can write A/B/C fic, please drop out ASAP. Indicate if you want to go on the pinch hitter list for this year, and if you want to offer additional fandoms as a pinch hitter to what you offered in your sign up (remember, pinch hitters have right of refusal.) If you complete a pinch hit, all penalties are reversed. dates and upcoming posts )

Final participant count is 46 including me. \o/ Yay, ♥♥♥. People were matched on ~30 different fandoms. It took approximately forever to complete the sort. :)

Sign ups are now closed. I will not have access to the website to turn the form off until some time later today, but sign ups are now closed, and I am not accepting any new ones.

Pervyficgirl, please check your e-mail and respond to my message.

Person who signed up without including your name, requesting SGA, Leverage, and The Unit without any identifying information, please get in contact with me ASAP. I'm going to spend today working out the assignments, and I can't include you in those assignments without any contact information.

Today is the last day for signups at I Saw Three Ships.

As of right now, we have forty participants, and everyone who is registered has been sent an e-mail confirmation of that fact. If you have not received e-mail confirmation, send me a message ASAP.

Please, get your Dear Writer letters ready for posting; the community entry will go up immediately after the assignments are sent out.

We have 33 participants signed up and 6 precious and wonderful people have signed up strictly as pinch hitters. Thank you enormously for that!

I have added a few FAQs and clarified the drop out rule, if you want to check that out on the website. More exciting for some of you, I have posted a template for your challenge entries. Using the template is not obligatory, but if you want to use it, it saves me a little bit of energy.

In terms of what we have to look forward to in the challenge, a few notes from the sign ups:

Requests: Almost Famous, Gossip Girl, Dollhouse, Criminal Minds, Eureka, Heroes, Lord of The Rings, Psych, and Tamora Pierece's Tortall.

Offers: Axis Hetalia, Chuck, Fringe, Grey's Anatomy, House, Mentalist, Merlin, Popslash, SKy High, all the Star Treks, and Veronica Mars.

If you haven't mentioned [community profile] 3_ships on your journal, or you haven't mentioned it recently, please do so. Sign ups close on Friday, so time is running out. Tell your friends, tell your enemies, and, most importantly, tell your fandoms so I have plenty of people to match you with!

If you need to drop out of I Saw Three Ships, for whatever reason, let me know ASAP. You can tell me either through a comment on this entry (all comments are screened), a private message, or an e-mail to zvi at slashx - files dot com. You may use the example message text or you may write whatever you like.

Subject: 3 Ships Drop Out

I'm sorry to let you know I will not be able to complete my I Saw Three Ships assignment this year. I understand that this has the following consequences:

1) If the person assigned to write me a story drops out, no pinch hit will be assigned.
2) If the person assigned to write me a story does turn in a story, it will not have my name on it as the recipient.
3) I can not sign up to receive a story, until and unless I successfully complete a pinch hit.

Your name
Three Ships: I saw three ships
[personal profile] zvi
There are 28 participants so far, not including yours truly. (The two people with unsigned registrations got in contact with me and will be participating! Yay!) We've also got three or four people signed up just to pinch hit.

Fandoms offered include Vorkosigan Saga, Top Gear RPF, Smallville, Numb3rs, Pirates of The Caribbean, Pushing Daisies, Lost, The Middleman, Being Human, The Big Bang Theory, and Chuck. Fandoms requested include Dollhouse, Chuck, Babylon 5, Popslash, Heroes, Gossip Girl, Spooks, Sarah Jane Adventures, NCIS, and Veronica Mars.

I requested announcements at several LJ newsletters, but I'm not sure what newsletter comms are at Dreamwidth. If you read a newsletter for which you think I Saw Three Ships would be appropriate, please either ask the editors to place an announcement, or send me a PM telling me the name of the comm, and I'll gladly make the request. Don't forget, mention Three Ships in your own journals. Signups close on October 30. I would really like us to have 40 participants signed up.

And, finally, just a thought. The minimum word count for this exchange is 1000 words, but there is no maximum. You might want to try making your entry into a novel and writing the first draft for National Novel Writing Month. Even if you don't reach 50,000 words, a good faith effort at NaNo should easily leave you with enough material to convert into two or three excellent short stories, and you only need one. If you're worried that getting your assignment on November 1 won't leave you with enough time to plot out a story, consider using Holly Lisle's Notecarding Method for fast plotting.

Next status update will be next week. Looking forward to sending out assignments and reading everybody's Dear Santa letters.

Eighteen people have registered. Fandoms offered include: popslash, Chuck, Torchwood, Criminal Minds, DC & Marvel Comics, Glee, Numbers, NCIS, and NCIS Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, two people filled out their requests and what they would write quite neatly, but did not enter name, e-mail address, or other identifying information. One of you requested Heroes, Heroes RPF, Almost Famous, and Star Trek XI RPF. The other person requested Sharpe, Mary Stewart's Arthurian Cycle, Young Wizards, and Star Trek (New Movie.)

I have sent an e-mail to everyone who completely filled out the registration form and I will continue to do that, although I make no promises as to the speed of my turn around. If you believe you registered and you did not get an e-mail from me, please contact me ASAP.

Please, please, please post about this challenge on your journals. The only way to get matched on your more obscure fandom requests is if you recruit your friends who share those fandoms with you. Also, it can be a lot of fun to work on a Secret Santa project for someone you know ahead of time, instead of J. Random Stranger who requested the large fandom you put in as a safety.
