Stories, stories everywhere!
Jan. 6th, 2012 12:59 amI Saw Three Ships stories and the Cookie Jar fanworks are live.
Please remember to thank your sailor.
Except, if there is a problem with the story, if your sailor didn't write a threesome or didn't write it about the people you requested, please e-mail me about it before you comment on the story. (And, you guys, if there is a problem, I don't know about it, this year I have managed to read none of the stories while preparing them for website publication. Find and replace is a beautiful thing for someone who cantankerously refuses to WYSIWIG her HTML.)
Thank you everyone for participating, thank you pinchhitters — Amy D., aphrodite_mine, Ladyoneil, The Samuraiter, Voleuse — for saving the challenge (as you do every year), thank you everyone who participated in the Cookie Jar. (If you saw a prompt and you didn't get around to responding to it, remember that you can always post the story to the AO3 as a story for someone else just because whenever you finish it.)

Reminder: Cookies Due
Jan. 4th, 2012 12:26 amIf you were planning to post something to The Cookie Jar, now is the time. All cookies must be posted by 11:59 p.m. EST (UTC -5) Thursday, January 5.
Remember, there is no medium or minimum length requirement for cookies.
Feel free to use the comments to this entry to point people to interesting prompts they may have overlooked. (Yes, they can be your prompts, but try looking around a little, too.)

*HUGS YOU ALL SO TIGHT*
Dec. 30th, 2011 06:35 pmAll stories are in, and ALL STORIES ARE IN!
People who couldn't finish on time defaulted early and the pinch hitters swung into action, and everyone who turned in a story on time has a story!
This is so awesome, you guys, you don't even know.
I'll be sending out links for people to review if their story is right the afternoon of the second, so if you sent me a draft that needed some revisions, please try to get me the revisions by the morning of the second.

25 Hour Warning
Dec. 28th, 2011 11:03 pmStories are due in approximately 25 hours, at 11:59 p.m. EST on 12/29.
There will be an uncertainly timed grace period, depending on when I have a chance to check stories in (damn the demands of work.)
I'm going to go now and respond to everyone who has sent in a story so far. If I haven't confirmed that I received a story from you in the next three hours, but you think you sent one in, please RESEND.
If you are really worried about getting your story in on time, feel free to PM it as well as e-mailing it.

Your answer in this poll is non-binding. It's just a way for me to remind people that they signed up, and give some pinch hitters some extra time.
If you answer no in the poll, but you do turn a story in on time anyway, you are counted as turning in a story on time.
I will also be sending an e-mail about this, and if you prefer to answer by e-mail, that's fine. If I don't see a response from either the poll or the e-mail by Monday, it is effectively like voting no in the poll!
Errors in Requests
Nov. 9th, 2011 11:24 pmWhen I sent you your list of requested fandoms, any moresome request that you made for Request 2 was listed as your moresome request for Request 1.
This mixup only occurred on your notice of requested fandoms. Your writer was given the correct list of moresomes for Requests 1, 2, 3, and 4.
If you would like me to send you your actual Request 1 moresome, please comment to this post (comments are visible), but otherwise, assume your writer got what you originally requested.
Also, only one writer has written to tell me that they did not get their original assignment, so everyone else has their assignment? Yes, yes?
Also, also — I got a note from a writer that their giftee's requested story element took the story in an AU direction they could not wrap their head around (and this was definitely and clearly something that had never happened on the show and would have changed the whole thing if it had happened; seriously, seriously AU, not just a differing interpretation on whether the protagonist of the series is Really Nifty or a Complete Dick.) You should include the requested story element, if you can, and please give it a serious try, but if it's impossible for you to write, then don't write that. Check out their journal or their Dear Sailor letter and write them something else that you think they will like. You must write the three characters in their threesome, but if you can't write their requested story element, you can still fulfill the terms of the exchange.

There is a problem, and it is me
Nov. 8th, 2011 09:19 pmI know that there was a problem with the way the mail merge worked for the assignments and for confirming what you got. I've been traveling home from Bascon and recovering from that, and I haven't been able to address it, but I will totally fix it by this weekend.
I'm sorry this year's assignments have been so screwed up. Next year, I will make sure to test the mail merge way in advance of when assignments go out.

Dear Sailor Letters
Nov. 5th, 2011 06:53 pmPlease write a letter expanding on what you'd like in a story, what you like in the fandoms and trios you requested, and what your squicks are. You may either write a letter in comments or post a link to an unlocked entry on your journal. Your sailor (i.e. assigned writer) is not obligated to include the things you put in the letter, but they should avoid your listed squicks, and may better be able to determine what to write for you.

At long last! ASSIGNMENTS!
Nov. 5th, 2011 06:42 pmThe assignment e-mails have been sent to all story exchange participants.
If you don't get your assignment, first, check your spam filter! Then, comment to this entry ON DREAMWIDTH to let me know you didn't get your assignment, the name you signed up with, and a second e-mail address I should send your assignment to.
If you get your assignment and you don't recognize the assignment as matching anything you offered to write, reply to the assignment e-mail ASAP and let me know that I matched you wrong and you need another assignment.
And, also, most importantly, have fun writing the story!

Continued delays
Nov. 3rd, 2011 03:43 pmI was able to finish the matching last night but not the mailmerge. However, I have a 4 hour layover in Atlanta. I should be able to solve the mystery of opensource mailmerge there.
I'm really sorry you guys
Nov. 1st, 2011 11:15 pmAssignments are not going out until late tomorrow. Matching is proving more difficult than I expected, since I didn't give myself two full weekend days to do it, and the software I am using is proving deeply resistant to creating a spreadsheet I can usefully print.
I have screened comments to this post, so you can yell at me if you want.

Oct. 24th, 2011 07:36 pm32 people have signed up so far, including pinch-hitters but not including me. I have sent confirmation e-mails to everyone who has signed up through today (a couple of you may have gotten it twice, as I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anyone.)

Cookie Jar update
Oct. 19th, 2011 11:13 pmYou may now leave up to THREE (3) prompts at the Cookie Jar. (The whole point of this challenge is that one may have more than one real love, so…. Also, james asked.)
First round of confirmation e-mails sent
Oct. 18th, 2011 11:42 pmI have sent a confirmation to everyone who has signed up to I Saw Three Ships through 1:26 p.m. EST on October 18.
Pinchhitters and story participants all got the same e-mail, so don't be alarmed if you only signed up to pinch hit and the e-mail mentions assignments.
If you haven't gotten a confirmation e-mail from me, comment here, PM me, or send an e-mail to sesa at zvi likes tv dot net.

Sign ups are open
Oct. 7th, 2011 12:29 amI have not updated the website, but I have updated the forms.
Sign up for I Saw Three Ships.
Also, we're going to try a little bonus feature: The Cookie Jar. Anyone can post one threesome prompt, and anyone can fulfill any prompt. Cookies are not limited to one thousand words or greater of fanfiction; any fanwork of any size is acceptable as a cookie. The Cookie Jar is going to be time-limited, to run concurrent with Three Ships, but it is otherwise free form. If you need an AO3 invite to participate, PM me your e-mail address, I have some to give away.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'm happy to see you back!

Dead Dog Post
Jan. 23rd, 2011 01:28 amThere is a tradition in conventions to have a "Dead Dog" panel at the end of a con, where you let the con moderators know what went right and what went wrong with the convention. I'm going to try that with this challenge, so it can run better next year.
I don't have many specific questions, just in general I'd like to know:
-- did I do something that made it easier for you to participate?
-- did I do something that made it harder for you to participate?
-- what really cool thing did I not do that you wish I had?
Specifically, I did wonder if people would like
a) to open the stories up to relationships with greater than three people? Please think about this not just from the perspective of how great it would be that you can now request your OT4 as part of 3 Ships, but also how you're going to react when you get that OT9 assignment in the fandom you offered just so you had three offers.
b) to collect, as a challenge community, recommendations for threesome stories that have been posted outside of 3 Ships?
c) to make available a list of unassigned prompts that people could pick up and write, and, if they finished by the deadline, include as part of 3 Ships?
If you don't feel like commenting publicly, feel free to pm me or e-mail me.
